Do NOT Open E Bike Batteries & Repair Them! Lithium Batteries Can Explode & Set on Fire

DO NOT open E-bike Batteries & repair them! It is not worth it. I have been seeing some YouTube videos of content creators repairing batteries without telling the truth about the dangers and consequences of an e-bike battery exploding & setting fire. I watched a You Tuber known as @sethsbikehacks very causally say that the battery can set on fire & blow smoke in your face. A failing lithium battery can do more than set on fire and blow smoke. I have seen videos where a battery can set an entire building on fire in less than a half an hour. A New York fire Marshall stated that an e bike battery is an incendiary bomb. Lithium battery emit a toxic gas when on fire. The fire department will evacuate the surrounding area if an electric car is on fire. It is a HAZMAT situation. A fireman said "it smells like cancer".
I do believe in right to repair & that America needs more laws for right to repair. But the dangers associated with lithium batteries is too real. I would not even repair the batteries for customers. I do not repair the electrical systems on e bikes. I only do mechanical repairs. The consequences of a mistake repairing a battery could mean someone dying, getting injured and/or property damage. Some things you want to leave to the experts. A lot of videos on social media are being made on how to repair batteries with NO warnings or cautions. Their is some real smart people & engineers on You Tube but the smart ones will inform the viewers about the real truth & dangers associated with their actions. The professionals will even tell viewers about the close calls & injuries that they have had associated with their actions. The Pros will also say dont do this at home. Those are the content creators that I respect and watch religiously. Adam savage is creator from the show Myth Busters that tells viewers be careful and shows his injuries as a warning. He once almost lost his finger cleaning his lathe.
The content creators that I do not like are the ones that do not take 1 minuet or more to give a proper warning. At least take the time to make sure people do not get hurt. Some of these people probably do not know the consequences, are learning and just recording their journey. But some do know the consequences and are lightly brushing over what can really happen or the truth. Do your research educational links below. If you cant help yourself do not repair the battery in your home or a building. Wear Personal Protective Equipment. Have fire suppressant near by.

A lot of bicycle influencer's or content creators will not inform viewers the truth & real dangers of lithium ion batteries. Probably because they are sponsored by bicycle manufacturers. I believe but can not confirm that. I only recommend bicycle accessories but would never recommend an electric bicycle because of the safety issues. I have only recommended one bicycle in one my videos & it was a non electric tricycle from worksman cycles. I have worked on a lot of cheap e bikes from amazon and online direct to consumer bikes that had horrible mechanical quality. If they have bad mechanical quality then the e-bikes most likely have bad electrical quality & bad lithium ion batteries. The bicycles are cheap for a reason. It is because they do not spend money on quality control, safe charging electronics & passing certifications like UL Solutions

DO NOT buy cheap so called compatible third party batteries from sites like or similar to Ali Express, Amazon & Temu. Better off buying the batteries directly from the original manufacturer of the bike. Check if your bikes batteries are UL Solutions certified & do not have counterfeit stickers. Store batteries away from exits, dwelling & flammables.
